RiverKnits is jointly run by Becci and Markus. They first started dyeing yarn at home on their narrowboat, which was moored on the River Nene at the time. The business has now grown and RiverKnits has moved into a studio in Weedon, Northamptonshire, allowing Becci and Markus to reclaim the boat as their living space.
RiverKnits wool yarn is all sourced from British breeds and much of it is spun in the UK too.
A lot of the colour inspiration is drawn from Becci and Markus’ life on the canals and rivers, some directly from the wildlife and landscape, and some from the history of the waterways. They use acid dyes, which are specifically designed for use with wool and silk, and enables them to dye consistent and repeatable colourways.
